Advances in anaesthesia have made this procedure safer, with very low risk of complications. In order to reduce anaesthetic risk, your pet's clinical status will be assessed prior to anaesthesia. Pre-existing conditions may not be evident during a physical examination, and may increase anaesthetic risk. We do recommed pre-anaesthetic blood testing in patients prior to anaesthetic, especially in our eldery patients. It is important to understand that these tests do not guarantee the absence of anaesthetic complications, however, they greatly reduce the risk and potentially alert you to other medical conditions. We also recommend administration of intravenous fluids during sedation to help support blood pressure and kidney function.
